HISTORY OF ANDREWS CEMETERY
Andrews Cemetery located 3.0 miles south of Karnack, Harrison
County, Texas,
on the west side of highway 43, had it's beginning in the
mid-1800's
The earliest grave at the cemetery is that of Hanna A.
Edwards who departed
this life on the 15th day of February A. D. 1847, in the
28th year of her
life. Hanna was the widow of George W. Edwards and was the
land owner of this
property before December, 1845.
Her properties were auctioned to settle debts left by her
late husband George.
Mr. Cephus K. Andrews of Marshall, Texas was the highest
bidder and bought the
property. Mr. C. K. Andrews donated the land that became
Andrews Cemetery.
This older section of the cemetery where Hanna A. Edwards
is buried is now
closed to future burials. There are 104 grave sites in the
section. Reference:

the majority of the
property was purchased by the Andrews Cemetery Association
from Mr. T. J.
Taylor.
