Bates, Robert Noble

NAPLES - Services for Robert Noble Bates, 89, of DeKalb, will be 2 p.m. 
Monday, May 21, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in DeKalb, with 
Billy Blakeney, the Rev. Tony Hoefner and the Rev. Roy Ford officiating. 
Interment will be in Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb. Arrangements are by 
Harrison Funeral Home. Mr. Bates died May 18, 2007, at a DeKalb nursing 
facility.

Born July 30, 1917, in Atlanta, in Cass County, he served as mayor and 
city councilman of DeKalb for 17 years and was a member of the DeKalb 
Masonic Lodge No. 9, Scottish Rite and Hella Shrine. Survivors include 
his wife, Norene Draper Bates; daughters, Peggy Thibeaux and Linda 
Shumake; son, Robby Bates; and brother, Lon Bates. Visitation will be 
3-6 p.m. today, May 20, 2007, at the church fellowship hall.
