Dr Martin Read 2-22-1855 Died at his residence near Boston, Bowie County, Texas on the 14th day of January 1855 after a short but severe case of dropsy, Doctor Martin Read, age about fifty-two years. The doctor was a native of Halifax County, North Carolina. He married in May 1826 and resided in the town of Halifax until the year 1834 when he emigrated to Wilcox County, Alabama where he remained until December 1854 when he again removed to Texas and where he died.
