STRONG MEMORIAL CEMETERY From Longview, go toward Kilgore on 135 to Peavine Road (it's about four miles from Kilgore and probably not marked.) Turn east, past Hardy St. and the next road is an old oiled road. Turn left on it. It runs to Strong Cemetery which has a small divided sign on the double gate. Thanks go to Dr Norman Black for sending us
these directions. We hope to have this reading up shortly. Dr Black
says: I counted about 35 burials with the earliest in 1953. A
neighbor told me it was an all black cemetery. It has two unusual,
to me, graves in which the handles of the caskets or vaults are a few
inches above ground and a concrete slab covers one of the graves.
It is not in real poor condition, but could use some cleaning up, and some small trees cut away from the headstones. There are several unmarked graves and some unreadable funeral home markers. Inventory & pivtures taken August 23, 2003 by Sharon Pierce and Christian Allen
