| Submitted by Sara Watson. What a great find! These documents were written by Elizabeth Kennard Watson, who grew up in Longview. Papa, as in "Papa's Book", was Taylor Elijah Kennard (born 1847 Pickins Cty, AL) moved to Rusk Cty Tx abt 1852. Lived near Pirtle. (TE moved to Longview in 1874 and worked in various enterprises - was post master during Cleveland administration.) His father was Charles Henry Kennard (died June 29, 1860/buried in Rusk Cty). This list is handwritten on a piece of stationary from the Texas House of Representatives. It is not dated. First line says "Age of Slaves as recorded in Papa's Book." It then lists first names. Some of Adaline's children were born in Georgia, Mississippi and Pickens Cty, Ala. and 2 in Rusk Cty, Tx. The Miss. county looks like Noxuby, may be Noxubee. The last 3 names on the list were all born in Rusk Cty in the 1850s. There's a total of 19 people listed. I have the original and by original I mean Elizabeth Kennard Watson's handwritten list that she simply copied from what I assume was the family bible. Page 1 Page 2 |
