Cemetery origin:
Deaton Cemetery started out as a family burial
plot on the 640 acre land grant John Deaton obtained from the State of
Texas in the Mercer Colony. The land grant was originally in Hopkins
County, but it straddled the current Rains and Hopkins County lines.
