January 31, 1913
Death Notice: Mrs J G Williams departed this life Jan 23, 1913. She
was born Sept 28, 1848, married to G H Williams
Oct 10, 1865. She was the mother of eleven children. She joined the
M E Church at the age of 16 years and lived an
exemplary Christian life to the day of her death, a kind and affectionate
wife and a true and loving mother. She leaves
a heart-broken husband, 8 children and a host of friends to mourn their loss,
but their loss is her eternal gain. Her remains
were lain to rest in the Elm church cemetery, the funeral services being conducted
by Rev J W Gorman.
March 7, 1913
Grandma Kearby dead.
Grandma Kearby, mother of C C Freeze and Mrs Dr Swindall, died at the home
of her son in the Sparks Chapel
neighborhood last Sunday. She was aged and had been in bad health for some
time. The Leader will publish a more
extended notice of her death later.
March 28, 1913
Sheriff Will Whittle and family moved the first of the week to their new home
on North Ravine street. This is a beautiful home and well arranged and
adds much to the looks of this street.
April 11, 1913
Russell Byrd and family came in Sunday evening from Mt Pleasant and was out
to the home of his brother-in-law, J F D
Wilkerson in Henry's Chapel neighborhood. Mr Byrd will make Rains county his
future home.

Jessero GLASS Hangs Himself
Sad News from Point, Texas
Jessero Glass, about 31 years of age, hung himself at his home in
Point late last Friday evening. The tragedy occurred at
his barn, his wife making the discovery. No reason was given for the
rash act, but it is supposed that his mind became
unbalanced. His remains were buried at the Lone Star graveyard Saturday
afternoon. He leaves a wife, and two small
children and other relatives.
Miss Ida Adams returned Sunday from a few days visit with relatives
and friends in Wills Point. Miss Ida has accepted
a posistion as one of the assistant teachers in the public school at that
place.
May 9, 1913
Dug Peason of Whiterock, Hunt county, who has been visiting his brothers,
Dr P W and Robt. Pearson, returned home
yesterday morning. Mrs P W Pearson accompanied him home for a few days visit.
The Carnegie Hero fund commission has announced an award of
a bronze medal and $2,000 in cash to J Floyd Fraser,
of Dulaney, Texas who saved a 16-year-old farm hand from drowning there May
28, 1911. The money is to be paid
as needed for educational purposes. Fraser is 13 years old and a school
boy. Many other awards were announced at
the same time by the commission, but this is the only one for Texas.
Miss Exa Roberts of the Dunbar neighborhood, who is attending
school at Commerce, came in yesterday evening to
take the examination here for a certificate to teach.
Mr & Mrs M A Vincent returned Monday from a visit their daughter, Mrs W B Hoskins, at Cumby.

John JOHNSON, Sr. Obituary - John Johnson,
Sr, aged about 55 years, fell dead while working in his field soon after
the noon hour yesterday evening. He was a highly respected citizen of
the neighborhood and the news of his sudden death
was sad news among his friends and acquaintances.
Born to Mr & Mrs J J McKay on the 9th inst, a fine girl.
Fun For the Little Folks at Birthday Party
The little folks enjoyed a birthday party at the Ivie Hotel Monday afternoon
i honor of Bessie Ivie's and Mauritta Potts'
9th birthdays. Refreshments were served and all report a very pleasant
time. Following is a list of names of those in
attendance: Rosa Potts, Lucy Cross, Virginia Edwards, Mavia Pirtle,
Lorine Harkey, Bessie Parker, Alleen Rodes,
Audry Allen, Bertha Allen, Juanita Amis, Gladys and Sybil Nix, Leoti Settle,

Tom Hill, Jr, Melvin Burnside, Oscar and Glen Peoples and Henry Bradford.
Also Misses Mattie Whittle, Nina Peoples,
and Kate Potts, and Gus Allen and Tom Tackett, Jr.
W O W unveiling:
The Willow Springs Camp of the W O W will unveil the monument of Sovereign
W F Cooke at the cemetery in Emory
the 4th Sunday evening in May, at 3 o'clock. All Woodmen are invited
to take part and the public is invited to attend.

Strayed or Stolen - Bay horse about 17 hands high and weighs about
1300 pounds. Has a C brand on left jaw. Had
a bell and trace chain on him when he left. Will pay liberal reward

Robbins of Pilgrim's Rest Community, on last Saturday, June 7th, at 5 o'clock

Mr & Mrs D D Robbins. The contracting parties both came of representative
families and combine those traits of
character that stand for noble American manhood and womanhood and we predict
and wish for them a prosperous

Luna Parker, one of our progressive business men, was in Emory visiting Sunday.
Walter Roberson left Friday morning for Weaver to visit his cousin Jeems Robertson,
who is reported very sick again.
W R Minchew and wife have gone to Childress, where he expects to recuperate
for a few weeks. The Leaders will follow them and keep them posted as
to the happening in Rains county.
Mr Tinker of Mt Vernon was the guest of his daughter, Mrs Roy Magill, the
first of the week. He returned home
Wednesday accompanied by Mrs Magill for a few days visit.

Mr E M Irwin of the Woosley community died Tuesday afternoon at this home
after a short illness. We know that all
things work together for good to those that love God. May the under Shepherd
who has taken Mr Irwin with him to
live in Glory, tenderly guard the remainder of the family until all find shelter
in the Heavenly fold.
Mrs S S Bowers was in Greenville Monday.
Mrs Pattie Hart of Greenville who has been visiting relatives and friends
here for the past two weeks, returned home
Tuesday, Miss Pearl Robb returning with her for a few days visit.
A B Swepston was visiting in Alba Sunday. Mr Otis
Swepston of Myrtle Springs is visiting his brother and sister here
this week.
IRWIN Death at Woosley
Mr E M Irwin of the Woosley Community died Tuesday afternoon at his home,
after a short illness. We know that all

Mrs M A Vincent had a big dinner Wednesday in honor of her birthday, and her
son M M Vincent and family, and her
daughter, Mrs Lora Hall and family, and Mrs Viola Cox and sons were guests. In
addition to the dinner, cream and cake
were served in the afternoon.
Mrs Will Melton and wife are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine girl at
their home Tuesday morning.
County Clerk Burnside issued marriage license to J D Kennemer and Miss Nellie
Ford the past week.

Herbert Stuart of Lindale was the guest of his Uncle B J Stuart in
Emory the first of the week.

POMEROY & MOTES Families Relocate
F M Pomeroy moved from the Motes residence to the Dick place on North
Planters street last Thursday, and P D Motes
will move his family back from Greenville and occupy the home place again.
Otis Magee and Miss Carmon Garrett were
married at the home of Judge & Mrs J B Allred in Emory Wednesday
night. Judge Allred performing the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of
ex County Treasurer W W Garrett of the
Pilgrim's Rest neighborhood, and the groom the son of Ras Magee of the Stones
Chapel neighborhood, and both
stand high in their respective neighborhoods. The Leader joins their
friends in congratulations and best wishes for
their happiness and prosperity.
STUART - DUFFEY Marriage - At 8:15 Wednesday
night, Mr Grover Stuart and Miss Mary Duffey were united in
the holy bonds of matrimony, Rev Will H Edwards, pastor of the Methodist Church,
officiating. The ceremony took place
at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs Ada Duffey, in the presence of a large
number of relatives and friends. After the
young couple had been warmly congratulated an elegant and sumptious repast
was served, to the complete satisfaction
of those participating. The contracting parties in this union have lived
in Emory all their lives, and the Leader takes
pleasure in joining their many friends in hearty congratulations and best
wishes for their future happiness.
August 29, 1913
Dr R J Cross, father of our fellow townsman, J F (Fred) Cross,
died at his home in Ridgeway, (Hopkins Co.) last
Thursday, and his remains were carried to Cumby for internment. He had been
in bad health for some time, but his
death came very suddenly.
Mr & Mrs Cross attended the funeral.
County Clerk Burnside's office got two weddings to it's credit
Saturday, and Leonard says he has got lots more
licenses to see.
W H Steward and Miss Mary Dees of Celeste were married in the clerk's office
in the aftermmpm. Squire J A Amis
officiating. Also, W H Watson and Miss Homer Carlisle were married there in
the afternoon, Rev W W Garrett
officiating. Mr Watson was from Alba and Miss Carlisle from Grand Saline.
