Commencement Sermon
On Monday night April 26th at the Baptist church the Commencement Sermon for
the term 1914-15 was delivered by Rev. Frank E. Luker, pastor of the M.E. church.
The seating capacity of the building was taxed to the limit by pupils and patrons
to hear the sermon, which was a masterful one. The text used was from
the Scripture of St. Paul, and the theme was the earnest and courageous and
convincing life of this grand man. At the conclusion of the sermon a fervent
prayer was offered by Prof. Bradford.
The church was beautifully decorated in ferns, lilies, roses and class colors,
old gold and black. As Mrs. Luker played a march the seniors and faculty
marched in, occupying the choir. The class sang “Holy, Holy, Holy,” and
afterwards Mrs. C.A. Glass sang “The Vision,” followed by Miss Lola Woosley
who sang “Oh Heart of Mine.”
There are ten members of the graduating class, namely:
Aletha Rebecca Amis
Audrey Hall
Irene Martin
Bertha Faye Nix
Florence Robertson
Boyd Rogers
Gertrude Sisk
Guy Sisk
Haidee Mae Settle
Lola Elizabeth Woosley
After congratulations the class and teachers marched to the Emoryl, where a
special show was given.
Part of the closing exercises were had at the court house last night and it
will be continued again tonight. The exercises of the graduating class
will be given next week.
School Faculty Engaged
The Board of Trustees for the Emory Public School met the first of the week and re-elected the old faculty, with one exception. Mrs. C.B. Couch did not apply. No selection to take Mrs. Couch’s place has been made yet. Prof. J.H. Bradford, principal; C.B. Couch, Mrs. J.W. Stuart, Mrs. C.V. Ray and Miss Kate Potts assistants.

(Emory) School Building Going Up Rapidly
Though somewhat hindered by the continued rains this week, the
work on our new school building is progressing rapidly, and Contractor
SHEPHERD is shoving things like he meant to finish the building on record
time.
The corner stone was placed in position last Thursday evening
and is a beautiful piece of workmanship. On the right side of the
stone is Emory High School 1922, encircling a star; above this is W.M.
RAGSDALE, Architect, and at the bottom of the stone is Shepherd Bros. &
Co., Contractors. On the left side of the stone is the Board of Trustees:
B.A. CARTER, President; R.T. PEARSON, Secretary; J.N. BRAZIEL, J.E. ALEXANDER,
S.H. HOOD, G.W. CLEMENTS and J.M. ARRINGTON.

Emory Public School Starts Monday 25th
The finishing touches are being put on the Emory school building
which will open its doors to the 400 school children Monday morning, September
25th. Following are the teachers who have been selected by our trustees

will receive the hearty cooperative help of every patron in the school.
