1938 For outstanding honor of one of the most successful seasons
for the Woosley basketball girls, the following deserve great credit, namely:
Forwards
Margie Rivers, #1 – that forward that just couldn’t quit
Verna Lee Houge, #2 –She just wouldn’t shoot at the goal and seldom
missed
Mauritta King, #6-She was too small to be so loud
Guards
Cristine Rusk, #7-Just too much ball material for her opponenents
Mildred Houge-The centrifigual unit of the team
Lawana Fenter-the snappiest guard on the team
Also were these dashing little forwards, Norma Dean Stuart and Virginia Lou
Callaway, together with that irressitable guard Robbie Houge, always eager and
ready to do more than their part. The team played 14 games with teams of Class
C Division and were defeated twice, losing by 1or 2 points respectively. Of
Class A & B schools, the Woosley girls scored 81 points against a total
of 108 points. (The Rains County Leader, March 25, 1938)
