Hill Cemetery
This cemetery was read by Sharon Pierce & Elaine Martin 9-2-2000 & 9-9-2000. As hard as we all try, we are human and sometimes when reading a cemetery we miss a grave covered with leaves, fireants, or bushes. Sometimes the headstone has sunk and is mostly underground. Our area also has many graves only marked with iron ore rocks and even many unmarked graves. There are headstones that have long ago been destroyed by the elements or even vandalizm, and are hard to impossible to read the details. We would appreciate it if you would let us know if you did not find your relative which was buried here, and would appreciate your letting us use the information you know about them. With the combined efforts of us all, we can make the Upshur County website bigger and better. Thanks to Leonard
Reynolds for the correction in
red with related story. My grandfather took me out to several of
the cemeteries as to teach me all the names and places where the family
is buried. For years there was only a pointed stone to mark the two
graves. Grandad ordered two small markers to put there and he mispelled
GABRIEL on the order form. It was too late to do anything, so we never
told him. Ella Landers was also unmarked untill Grandad bought that
marker. He said she was a young, unmarried retarded girl from a poor
family who died after childbirth. Copyright © 2007 - 2009 by Elaine Martin & Etta Withers |
